April 2018 Favourites

Can you believe it’s May already?!
It’s beautiful weather, the swifts are back, the tulips are blooming and spring is well and truly here!
It’s also my birthday month! Hurrah for cake!
Here are some of the things I’ve been loving in April 2018.

Black Mirror (Channel 4 (2011–14) Netflix (2016–present) (Image courtesy of Wikipedia)

Black Mirror is a series of stand-alone short science fiction films exploring the possibilities of new fictional technologies and their effect on humanity in the not too distant future. It’s written by Charlie Brooker and every single episode is outstanding. The series rips me to my very core, it’s believable and so very real which is what makes it absolutely terrifying.
I love it, although I am only able to watch a few episodes at a time as it’s quite frankly, depressing!

(Scribner, November 8th, 2011)

I’ve already ranted and raved about this book a number of times, whether it be on Instagram, BookTube or here on this blog, but holy heck I love this novel. It’s a perfect mixture of science fiction, thriller and love story. It’s well researched, well written and easy to devour.
Jake Epping finds a portal which takes him back in time to the late 1950’s where he establishes a new life for himself in the past, he makes friends and falls in love all while hunting down Lee Harvey Oswald and following him in an attempt to prevent the JFK assassination. It’s superb and I thoroughly enjoyed every one of its 800+ pages!

Ok, so I appreciate this is an old film. War of the Worlds the original was made back in the 1950s and was epic in itself but the 2005 remake really makes me happy.
Tom Cruise is exceptional and don’t even get me started on Dakota Fanning. So well done, even after seeing it numerous times I still get goosebumps at the ferry scene and I still want to hide when everyone is running for their lives after the gargantuan robotic alien bursts out of the ground and starts blasting everything. Also, the sirens. Jeez.

Wait by the River – Lord Huron

I love Lord Huron. What can I say? I’m a total dreamer and I adore anything that invokes a wistful sort of daydream deep within my mind. That’s what this music does to me. It gives me shivers and has me mesmerised. It’s beautiful, it’s dreamy. I don’t know how else to explain it except that it transports me somewhere else and isn’t that what art should do?

This account though. Shethespy. I love her style, I love her photography, I love that she includes TEMPLATES on her stories. Which Disney princess are you? How much are you like your star sign? How Introverted are you? All these awesome little templates for you to screenshot and add to your Instagram story. So creative and so fun!

I have followed Melanie Murphy for a couple of years now, and I adore her content.
Melanie is an advocate for body and sexual positivity, her videos are honest, easy to watch and of course entertaining. From vaginas and PMS to body image and anxiety she covers it all and is so REAL as she does it.

Let me know your thoughts!
Until next time,

S x
