What am I reading? February 2019 TBR
February is upon us and spring is around the corner, hurrah!
This month sees valentine’s day, my 11 year anniversary and an earlier pay day as it’s a short month, hurrah, hurrah!
So, what am I hoping to read this month? Let’s find out!
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep – Philip K Dick
The first novel I read by this author was The Divine Invasion and in all honesty, I had no idea what to make of it. I liked it a lot, but it was… weird. This seems to be a theme with our Philip, from what I can gather.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is the novel on which the famous film Blade Runner was loosely based, however, I am told not to expect the book to be anything like the film, which is fair enough.
I’m expecting to be confused again, but I kind of like that, so we’ll see how this goes.
This book is about an android killing bounty hunter who gets some sort of high paying assignment which is likely going to cause more trouble than it’s worth.
Goodreads rates this novel at 4.08 out of 5 and I hope to rate it 4/5.
They Both Die at the End – Adam Silvera
This will be my first novel by this hugely popular YA author and I am expecting big things!
They Both Die at the End follows Matteo and Rufus, two people who are alerted to the fact that they are going to die today. This is set in a world in which your demise is foretold to you on the day it’s going to happen and there’s a lovely social networking app for people who receive such a message so they can connect with others in the same situation. Rufus and Matteo do just that and hope to live an entire lifetime in just one day.
This sounds so good, I love it. I can tell it’s probably going to have me crying like a buffoon and I am here for it.
Goodreads rates this novel at 4.15 stars and I’m hoping it’ll be a 5/5 star read for me.
The Party – Elizabeth Day
This novel has been on my TBR since last year and I just haven’t got around to it. I used to rep for a blind date with a book company and this is one of the novels they sent me (Along with another which features in today’s TBR)
I can’t honestly tell you much about this book, the synopsis is particularly vague. Two friends went to the same school when they were younger but who are opposites. One a popular jock, the other a swot. They grow up and the swot is invited to the jock’s 40th birthday bash, however, something doesn’t feel right… and that’s all I know.
So yeah, no clue. I hope it’s good, but if I’m honest I just want it off my shelf and I’m not expecting very much.
Goodreads rates this 3.67 out of 5 and I think I’ll end up giving it a 3/5.
Homegoing – Yaa Gyasi
This is the second book I received whilst representing the blind date with a book service and I am definitely intrigued by this one.
Homegoing follows the lives of two sisters who lead very different lives – one is sold into slavery and one becomes a slave traders wife. This book follows not just their lives, but the lives of the generations which follow them, spanning all over the world.
It just sounds so epic and I can’t wait to dive in. I think it will probably make me cry.
Goodreads gives this 4.42 out of 5 and I think it’ll be a 5/5 read for me.
The Diabolic – S J Kincaid
I’ve spoken before about my weird sense for books I reckon I’ll enjoy… I’ve not been wrong yet but there’s always a first time!
This is one of those books which I was drawn to for reasons unknown to me. It was on my radar before I ever knew what is was about (Please tell me this happens to other people too…!?)
The Diabolic is about a being called Nemesis who has been created specifically to protect a galactic senator’s daughter.
When the daughter is summoned to the galactic court as a hostage Nemesis must protect her by becoming her – by pretending to be human, and from there on a whole bunch of shit goes down.
So I am assuming that Nemesis is some sort of android or whatever, I’m unsure but I really do love the sound of this!
Goodreads gives this 4.07 out of 5 and I am hoping for a 5/5 read.
Wicca: A Modern Guide to Witchcraft and Magick by Harmony Nice
I am also listening to Wicca: A Modern Guide to Witchcraft and Magick by Harmony Nice on audiobook – this is exactly as it sounds a guide to Wicca for those who don’t know much about it.
It’s a religion which has always intrigued me and I want to learn more.
Goodreads rates this 4.22 out of 5 and I expect to give it around a 4.
NSFW – Piper Lawson
On E-book format I am reading NSFW – a romance novel by Piper Lawson about a cooperate workplace love affair. I only just started it but I figure it’s going to get super steamy.
Goodreads rates this 4.07 out of 5 and I think I’ll end up giving it 3/5.
So, those are my picks for the month of February!
Let me know if you’ve read any of these books, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Have a wonderful month, bookworms and happy reading!
Until next time,
